On Wednesday May 3rd at 14:00, Netherlands Business Support Office Barcelona organizes a special edition of La Mesa Naranja: Sustainable Collaboration in Circular Economy Awareness and Prevention, at Flax & Kale (C/ dels Tallers, 74b).
The goal of this networking lunch: an informal lunch to celebrate the start of the collaboration between Race Against Waste and SETEM and opportunity for networking.
Our special guests for this edition will be Timmy de Vos, Co-Founder of Race Against Waste, and Judith Talvy, Gemma Amorós and Claudia Bosch of SETEM.
The Dutch social enterprise Race Against Waste engages young generations to get started with sustainability. Children from more than 600 primary schools in the Netherlands, Germany, France and recently also in Spain are involved in three projects: the E-waste Race, the Textile Race and the Energy Race. During these projects, children learn about the impact of our consumption behaviour and energy consumption on people and the environment. But much more importantly, they learn what you can do about it and how to involve other people too!
During a race, different school teams compete against each other to make as much impact as possible. The teams receive points for carrying out repairs, organising clothing swaps, energy-saving actions and collecting items for reuse and recycling. To score as many points as possible, they campaign in their own neighbourhoods and involve parents, neighbours and family in the race. Ever heard of the Greta effect? The actions of the children inspire adults to join the movement and adopt sustainable behaviour. And with the points earned during the races, children can win a great educational school trip. In this way, the races make contributing to a more beautiful world fun, educational and easy!
In Spain, Race Against Waste recently entered into a collaboration with SETEM Catalunya, part of SETEM Federación. SETEM is a Spanish NGO with a consolidated trajectory in global justice education, that works towards international solidarity and equality, among others in supply chains of e-waste and textile. SETEM carries out many trainings and other educational activities, and their expertise and experience are a great start for the Textile Race and E-waste Race in Catalonia. SETEM Catalunya is now preparing their first roll out of the races in the Barcelona and Rubí.
This network lunch celebrates the combined forces of SETEM and Race Against Waste and is an invite to become inspired on the effect of the Textile and E-waste Races. It is starting point for networking with circularity actors, sustainable producers and local councils and a moment to discover opportunities for having a Textile Race and E-waste Race in your area.
